QEF Workshop 2009/10

Move More, Eat Well and Feel Good Workshop

Background of the Workshop
With a grant from the Government’s Quality Education Fund (QEF), World Cancer Research Fund Hong Kong (WCRF HK) has launched a one-year outreach project “Move More, Eat Well and Feel Good” Workshop. As a follow-up to another QEF-funded project, the “Eat Right for Our Body and Mind Workshop” in 2007/08, this recently QEF funded project aims to improve the general wellbeing of secondary school teachers by helping them identify barriers to adopting a healthy diet and active lifestyle while putting forward solutions to overcome these barriers. In the long run, it is expected that the workshop will help prevent cancer and other chronic diseases in Hong Kong through empowering teachers to act as role models for their students and make healthy diet and lifestyle a widely adopted standard of living in Hong Kong.

About the Workshop
This project is expected to benefit about 1,200 teachers of 20 secondary schools in Hong Kong from Oct 2009 to Sep 2010. WCRF HK’s dietitians and certified personal trainer will visit each participating schools to host a 4-hour workshop, which is tailored to teachers’ needs and interests. Educational materials with practical health tips will be provided to help teachers to adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle. The workshop will cover:

  • Health talks on diet and physical activities
  • Healthy cooking and exercise demonstrations
  • One-on-one health consultations for teachers with our dietitians

Objectives of the workshop include:

  • Provide teachers with science-based information on healthy food and nutrition, physical activity, weight management and disease prevention
  • Provide channels for teachers to access health information workshop
  • Help teachers identify barriers to adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle through individual health consultation
