QEF Workshop 2007/08

Eat Right for Our Body and Mind Workshop

Background of the Workshop
With a grant from the Government’s Quality Education Fund, World Cancer Research Fund Hong Kong (WCRF HK) organised the "Eat Right for Our Body and Mind Workshop" for secondary school teachers in Hong Kong in 2007/08. The goal of this project was to improve both the physical and mental health of secondary school teachers in Hong Kong by encouraging them to adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle. In the long run, the workshop would probably serve to help prevent cancer in Hong Kong where teachers act as role models for their students and make healthy diet and lifestyle a widely adopted standard of living in Hong Kong.

About the Workshop
Running from June 2007 to May 2008, this pilot programme has benefitted approximately 1,400 teachers of 26 secondary schools around Hong Kong. WCRF HK’s registered dietitian visited each participating school to host a 90-minute workshop tailored to teachers’ needs and interests. Educational materials with practical health tips and follow-up activities were provided to maintain participants’ interests.

Objectives of the workshop include:

  • Provide teachers with science-based information on healthy food and nutrition, physical activity, weight management and disease prevention
  • Encourage teachers to adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle
  • Educate teachers on the relation between food and mood
  • Provide practical tips for teachers to incorporate a healthy diet
  • Provide channels for teachers to access health information workshop
