WCRF HK Summer Academy for Future Scientists

WCRF HK’s first-ever Summer Academy for Future Scientists was successfully held during summer with close to 300 children and their parents enjoying an educational and fun-filled time. Made possible by the exclusive sponsorship from ZESPRI Kiwifruit, the Academy enabled young children and their parents to discover interesting facts behind our daily food and lifestyle choices so as to learn how to develop healthy habits for the prevention of cancer and other diseases.

The participating children, mostly aged 6 to 9, were fully engaged with their tutors in the interactive health talks, innovative cooking and inspirational experiment sessions, where they learned the interesting science behind our food and the importance of healthy eating. Through the carefully-designed exercise tutorials and exciting games, participants also learned the science of our body muscles and joints, as well as the benefits of moving more to prevent cancer and other chronic diseases.

As a finale to the programme, a Graduation Ceremony was held at Plaza Hollywood where each child participant who had completed the two half-day Academy sessions was awarded a certificate and goodies from ZESPRI. Results of a healthy kiwifruit recipe contest as part of the Academy’s highlights were also announced at the ceremony with winners receiving fabulous prizes from ZESPRI.
