What we know about preventing cancer

WCRF HK raises awareness that cancer is largely preventable and stimulates new public initiatives for cancer prevention and control throughout the world.

The WCRF global network has published the most comprehensive report ever produced on the relationship of food, nutrition, physical activity, and weight management to cancer risk: Food, Nutrition, Physical activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (WCRF/AICR, 2007).

The WCRF global network funds cutting edge research in cancer prevention through our Grant Application Programme. To date, the WCRF global network has funded close to HK$1 billion in research in more than 30 countries. WCRF HK is dedicated to funding research in Hong Kong. A unique component to our research programme is input from our Asian Regional Research Advisors.

The prevention of cancer worldwide is one of the most pressing challenges facing scientists and public health policy-makers. Currently, cancer statistics predict that one in three people will develop cancer at some point.

"The WCRF global network funds new studies in the area of diet, physical activity and cancer prevention, and interprets the existing scientific literature so that individuals can understand which factors really can affect their risk of cancer."
