There are 3 types of legacies:

1. Residuary legacies: this gift is calculated after all your other gifts, taxes or debts are deducted – it represents all or a percentage of what is left of your estate.

2. Pecuniary legacies: this is the gift of a specific sum of money that you choose.

3. Gift in kind: this is the gift of a specified item of value. For example: a property, a painting or a piece of jewellery.
