The Magic Million Appeal

Our Magic Million Appeal aims to raise HK$1million this year to help fund cutting edge research, like our new project looking at breast cancer among Chinese cancer survivors. The project is being led by Prof. Suzanne Ho at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

At present, one in four of us in Hong Kong will develop cancer at some point in our lives. Contrary to the belief that cancer is just down to fate, scientific research funded by the WCRF Global Network brings us hope and tells us that cancer is largely a preventable disease.

World Cancer Research Fund Hong Kong (WCRF HK), along with the WCRF global network, funds cutting edge research into cancer prevention. So far the WCRF global network has invested more than HK$800 million into scientific research around the world, including HK$5 million through major universities in Hong Kong. Because of this research, experts now estimate that about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented through diet, lifestyle and weight management.

The end of cancer begins with research. You too can bring hope to a cancer-free future by helping us reach our goal of raising HK$1 million for the Magic Million Appeal. Donate or sign up now for the Beat the Banana Run as a way of raising funds for vital research!

Breast cancer prognosis in Chinese breast cancer survivors
This project, conducted by Prof. Ho and her research team, aims to investigate the effects of habitual soy food intake before and after breast cancer diagnosis on breast cancer prognosis and survival among breast cancer survivors in Hong Kong. The findings of the study will help health professionals to provide breast cancer survivors with evidence-based dietary recommendations on soy food intake after breast cancer diagnosis. The results will also contribute to guiding soy food consumption for breast cancer survivors, which may help prevent any unnecessary food avoidance and improve their quality of life.
