Preventing cancer

World Cancer Research Fund Hong Kong raises awareness that cancer is largely preventable and stimulates new public initiatives for cancer prevention and control throughout the world

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) network is a leading authority on the links between diet, nutrition and physical activity, and cancer prevention and survival. The launch of our Third Expert Report, Diet, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer: a Global Perspective (WCRF/AICR, 2018), brings together the very latest research in this area.

Our network funds cutting edge research in cancer prevention through our Grant Application Programme. To date, the World Cancer Research Fund global network has funded close to HK$1b in research in more than 30 countries. World Cancer Research Fund Hong Kong is dedicated to funding research in Hong Kong.

The prevention of cancer worldwide is one of the most pressing challenges facing scientists and public health policymakers.

Dr Panagiota Mitrou, Director of Research Funding and Science External Relations, WCRF International:

"We fund new studies in the area of diet, physical activity and cancer prevention, and interpret the existing scientific literature so that individuals can understand which factors really can affect their risk of cancer."
